Robyn Westwood, Director of East City Sound ChorusEast City Sound Director Robyn Westwood…

We are fortunate to have such a talented musical director in Robyn Westwood. Robyn is eagerly leading and inspiring the chorus towards barbershop excellence.

Robyn has been singing since she was a toddler, it has always been her favorite thing to do. She learnt to read music at a young age, during her 3 years of piano lessons.

Robyn is married with four children and four grand children.

Robyn sang with an S.A.T.B church choir, as a teenager, for 15 years.

Then joined MDMS (Mountain District Musical Society) Performing in annual musical plays including Pirates Of Penzance, Brahms, Messiah, and Hairspray. She also sang at their annual Singing concerts.

Chosen to participate in a Faye Dumont conductor’s workshop taught and conducted a small group (12) of singers 10 minutes of music, which was performed at Robert Blackwood hall.

Directed and conducted several concerts and appointed MDMS Christmas carol leader.

Honoured with an MDMS life membership.

Robyn joined Yarra Ranges Harmony Barbershop chorus in 1994, singing the baritone part, then due to demand, joined the bass section. She was appointed assistant director in 1997 and became director of this chorus, now known as East City Sound in 2007.

She was the Bass singer in ‘Four on the Floor’ barbershop quartet for 8 years, achieving most improved quartet and a top ten placing at regional competitions.

Robyn attends the Sweet Adelines Region 34 directors workshops every year and also attended the annual Sweet Adelines national convention/competition 2008 in Hawaii, where she participated in the many educational workshops that were conducted.

Robyn aspires to achieving perfectly balanced and tuned Barbershop chords and her excitement is evident when she hears overtones, it is magic when those chords are locking and ringing. Her love of this special kind of acappella singing is only one of the many motivators in her leadership role.

Robyn’s amazingly tuned ear has led to the alias Super(wo)man…
‘Look out the front; it’s the director, who came to East City Sound with supersonic powers. Disguised as mild-mannered Robyn Westwood, she is fighting the never ending battle for locked, ringing chords in the American barbershop way’.

…Robyn Westwood is our super hero.
