Sweet Adelines International is a worldwide organisation of women dedicated to teaching the American art form of four-part harmony "Barbershop Style" and to encourage a universal appreciation of this style of music through education and performances.

All About East City Sound

East City Sound is a dynamic chorus of women singing four part unaccompanied a cappella harmony in the barbershop style. We perform with colourful costumes and lively choreography and provide musical and visual entertainment of the highest quality to suit any occasion. Our repertoire includes modern, traditional, jazz, gospel, special occasion and patriotic songs.

The chorus performs regularly throughout the community, for a wide variety of audiences and occasions lead by our director Robyn Westwood and we are always seeking new members.

Musical knowledge is not necessary to join (but would be beneficial) because voice training and music education are part of our member benefits. If you are a woman of average singing ability, with or without vocal training, you will find a part that fits your voice range. We particularly encourage singers in the lower vocal range who find it difficult to sing with traditional female choral groups.

Weekly rehearsals are all about the joy of singing in a fun and friendly atmosphere and are held on Thursday nights at 7:30 pm at St Stephens Anglican Church, Phyllis St Bayswater (Melway 64 C6). We finish at 9.30 and enjoy a cuppa with socialising and informal sing-along until 10.00. The last rehearsal of each month is ‘party night’ when we enjoy social time to chat and catch up, refreshments are provided and so is the birthday cake to celebrate the birthday girls of the month.

Warning: Singing barbershop is addictive and seriously good for your health.
